The national concert series A Day on the Green celebrates classic Oz rock with a mighty big bang on Sunday March 25 at Centennial Vineyards in Bowral.

Noiseworks, Ian Moss, Richard Clapton, Dragon, 1927 and Choirboys will perform in a five hour musical feast; a celebration of the Australian rock music history they have so vibrantly helped define.

To cater for so many hits, the concert will run earlier than usual with gates opening at 1:00pm, music from 1:30pm and Noiseworks finishing at 8:10pm so you can return home at a reasonable hour on a Sunday night.

The concert will be all general admission, so with good food and wine and your favourite deck chair, a magnificent location, classic rock all day long and tickets at just $89 you are guaranteed value-for-money.

Celebrations Sundays is coming up again at Biota Dining. On the last Sunday of every month, with the next one being this Sunday 26 February, Biota Dining offer a feast for family and friends.

Celebration Sundays includes Redleaf Farm suckling pig, a selection of share plates and garden salads, pastry suprises, lawn sports and cocktails on arrival.

Meegan Carroll & Glen Knight • 18th December, 2010

Meegan and Glen met through a good friend whom they had both known for at least ten years. Right from the beginning, Glen knew Meegan was the girl for him, and for Meegan, the realisation came when Glen accompanied her to a doctor’s surgery to have a wound in her leg stitched up… long story!

From then on the couple were inseparable, spending most of their free time together. Five years later, Meegan and Glen were walking their dog Zoey on a windswept beach. Zoey ran ahead with Glen, but kept returning to Meegan. Glen called out to Meegan, telling her that there was something in Zoey’s collar. It was then that Meegan noticed a little piece of black paper with the words, “Will you marry us?” Looking up, Meegan saw Glen kneeling in a heart he had drawn in the sand with a sparkling diamond ring in his hand. Meegan was in shock, but still managed to say ‘Yes’.

The couple chose a winery for both their wedding and reception venue. They particularly liked the fact that all the electricity used in the winery, accommodation and cellar door is generated through solar and wind power. Choosing to stay together on the night before their wedding, Meegan and Glen agree that it was very special to wake up with one another on their wedding morning.

Meegan and her bridesmaids spent the morning decorating the ceremony site with straw bales, doilies, lanterns, antique soda bottles, Batlow apples, birds and hydrangeas freshly picked from Glen’s parents’ house. However, the weather was far from kind during the ceremony.

The pair struggled to say their vows through gale force winds and Glen’s ring was blown out of Meegan’s hand into the grass. Fortunately the ring was safely recovered after a frantic search by the bride and her sister!

Following a fun photo shoot in the winery grounds, it was time for the reception, and Meegan and her bridesmaids donned cowgirl boots and hats and performed a line-dance to get the party started.

Much to the delight of their guests, the couple had a table decorated with photographs from their parents and grandparents’ weddings at the reception. Other decorations included a vintage typewriter and a gorgeous birdcage with delightful tea light candles.

As Glen’s grandparents had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary the previous year, Meegan thought it was important to recognise this significant event on their own special day. So, instead of throwing her bouquet, she presented it to Glen’s delighted grandmother.

With so many historic churches to choose from in the Southern Highlands there is sure to be one that meets your requirements for a beautiful historic backdrop to your special day. Many of the historic churches are located in village surroundings, harking back to the days of the quaint old English village church ringing its bells to beckon the townsfolk to the wedding that was about to begin.

You can add this country charm to your wedding by booking a Southern Highlands historic church well ahead of your planned date – they are ever so popular. Some of the better known churches are :
• Holy Trinity Berrima – a classic Anglican sandstone dating back 156 years.
• St Francis Xavier Berrima – a picturesque Catholic church that is a photographer’s favourite, located in the village of Sutton Forest.
• St Johns Robertson (Anglican) – in the heart of the village.
• St Judes Bowral (Anglican) – a larger historic church with an extensive church yard including a majestic presbytery and gardens.
• St Davids Burrawang (Anglican) – has a magical hilltop setting just outside the village perimeter.
• St Johns Moss Vale (Anglican) – is not quite as old as the classic sandstones, but is an attractive and well-located church.

There are many other churches in the Highlands including a number that have heritage importance but are no longer used for regular services. It’s best to enquire at the Visitor Information Centre at Mittagong on 1300 657 559 or 02 4871 2888 to establish what churches are available and who to contact.

Some of the decommissioned churches may be available for photographic opportunities. Many of these are classic country churches located in areas such as Kangaloon, Glenquarry and High Range. These locations are only a 15 minute drive away from reception venues in the Highlands.

Tracy and Greg first met nearly ten years ago at a bar during a night out with mutual friends. Soon after, they became inseparable and, as they say, the rest is history…

By 2009, the couple was living in London. It was nearly Christmas and they were out celebrating with friends when suddenly Greg went down on one knee and asked Tracy for her hand in marriage. The spontaneous proposal took Tracy completely by surprise, and she was in shock for the rest of the night! After numerous telephone calls and Skype sessions later in the night, the ecstatic pair finally shared their news with family and friends at home in Australia.

Returning to Australia in 2010, it was time for the wedding planning to begin. Keen on the idea of a destination wedding, Tracy and Greg decided on one of the most popular wedding locations in Australia – the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. To make the most of the Highland landscape’s glorious palette of colours, the couple opted for an autumn wedding date, and selected the historic and beautiful St Francis Xavier Church in Berrima for their ceremony.

On the eve of the wedding, Tracy, her bridesmaids and her family stayed at Millewa Country Home. Together they relaxed with champagne and enjoyed dinner and a delightful gourmet platter. Millewa was perfect for Tracy’s large family, and also proved to be a wonderful setting for photos the next day.

When it was time to get ready, Tracy was thrilled to finally step into her stunning Johanna Johnson gown, and to put on her carefully selected accessories. Surrounded by her bridesmaids, all looking lovely in their elegant dresses, the picture was complete when the bridal party’s beautiful bouquets of roses, freesias, lizzies and white berries arrived.

With one of Tracy’s bridesmaid’s pregnant belly growing bigger by the day, Cheveaux’s Karen Millen dress had to be altered to accommodate her ‘plus one’ in the lead up to the wedding. Dressmaker Peter Bartlett cleverly added some extra room to the dress, whilst retaining the gorgeous asymmetrical shoulder detail.

Arriving at the church fashionably late, in London Cabs, after a very funny run-in with a flooded causeway, the ceremony began with Tracy’s proud father leading her down the aisle to her future husband. Pachelbel’s Canon was beautifully played by a string trio. After an emotional ceremony, the bridal party was whisked off for a photo shoot while the couple’s guests arrived at the Centennial Vineyard reception venue to be greeted by a bagpiper playing at the top of Centennial’s impressive tower.

To everyone’s delight, the ambience was absolutely magical. Tracy and Greg wanted their reception to feel like a wonderfully intimate dinner party, and their clever choice of candles and crystals set the scene perfectly. Tracy and her mother spent months collecting crystal bowls and pin trays from charity stores and they proved to be perfect bases for the candles at the reception.

Decorations from the church were used again at the reception with the flower swag and floral pew decorations used over the fireplace to stunning effect.

After a delicious dinner, hilarious speeches and lots of happy tears, Tracy and Greg cut their elegant cake before dancing the night away. One of the evening’s highlights was their choreographed dance to Pulp Fiction’s ‘Girl, You’ll be a Woman Soon’.

Tracy and Greg’s gorgeous two-tier wedding cake by Sweet Art featured classic art déco piping, pretty sugar flower decorations and three delightful flavours:?a layer of chocolate mud at the bottom, then carrot and walnut above, while the top was finished off with a delicious layer of white chocolate cake.

With guests still talking about the day, and commenting on the excellent food and wine, the couple are delighted that the event they created was intimate, fun, and warm, and agree that it was one of the happiest moments of their lives – made all the more special because it was shared with family and friends from near and far.

Harper's Mansion, Berrima

Harper's Mansion is a National Trust property in Berrima. The house is a fine example of a colonial Georgian residence and is furnished in period style. Set in two acres of strolling gardens of cool climate heritage plants overlooking the historic village of Berrima and features one of the largest hedge mazes in Australia, which can be hired for events and weddings .

The house was built by James and Mary Harper just after Berrima was gazetted in 1831 and presents an inspiring story of a proud early Australian family. June Long Weekend at Centennial Vineyards

Over the upcoming June long weekend, Centennial Vineyards are holding their annual Duck and Pinot tasting. This year, they are matching their amazingly perfumed Woodside 2009 Pinot Noir with an equally amazing duck and mushroom pie!

Using the finest Thirlmere duck and the freshest Mittagong Tunnel mushrooms, local pastry chef Stephen Crooks of Phatt Duck Catering will whip up a batch of bite-sized pies to complement their Pinot.

A tasting plate of duck and mushroom pie, risotto ball and slice of frittata, with a flight of three wines for only $10 will be available on Saturday and Sunday of the long weekend, from 11am until 1pm, in our Cellar Door.

Over the entire weekend we'll be showcasing the finest local produce. Julia Donn from Hunt and Gather fine foods will join us in Cellar Door on Monday 13th, offering tastings from her range of sauces, condiments and fruit butters.
